When making a list of the social evils that prevail in our society, one comes across some direct devils like racism, gender inequality, and pointless discrimination and some other subtle evils which are able to corrupt the roots of our society. The second type of evil does not seem so bad at first but after we do close inspection and a thorough investigation, we can find the actual lethality these social evils possess. From shaping our younger generation’s future to affecting the middle aged population, these evils have their reach all over us. It has been able to influence the way we live and has also changed our perspective towards life. The society overlooks the negative impacts of this evil as it lets them fulfill their superficial desires, and they ignore the adverse effects this social evil can have over the people who are using them. This is a monster truck which is taking the advancing and developing technology as a progressive fuel. It is the social media and the rising technology that we are talking about here, yes both of these are evil in nature and they are indeed taking a toll on the society.
From immensely diverting students’ attention to increasing heart problems and brain anomalies in grownups ,this evil we all fondly call ‘the social media’ has taken over the world . The daily trending topics on social media have taken away our attention from the beautiful mornings and the blissful evenings, all we want now is more likes on our pictures and posts. After the rise of the social media, the society has become more judgmental and distraction levels in children have risen tremendously. Earlier there used to be books, but now it has been replaced by tablets and E-book reader. There are no more queues in libraries for issuing an informational book as people now have every possible detail on their fingertips. Phone calls are now replaced by messages on some platform, cyber cafes are filled with children wasting their time on this social media, discovering things which should not be exposed to people of their age and the worst part is there is no authority or regulatory body which is monitoring these social media sites and the impacts it has on the its users.
Although it is satisfying to know that we humans are growing, becoming better at completing tasks, achieving milestones everyday in the realms of technology, it is equally disturbing to know the fact that we are continually losing the essence with which our forefathers grew and lived their lives. We have forgotten the free spirited will which is required to lead a tension free life. If we don’t change our habits soon the gadgets and technology, especially the social media will take over the society and will completely conquer our minds. It has been proved that a prolonged usage of social media kills the user’s creativity and also destroys the emotional condition of that person, these are only few of the bad effects this social evil has on its users there are numerous other adverse effects.
